What a weekend, starting on Friday with an early rise to attend the Dawn Parade which was well patronised by Otautau and surrounding districts, the Emergency Services (Fire Rescue & Ambulance) whom marched to the cenotaph to pay their respects.

Jude’s sons Tom & Sam both Volunteer Firefighters looked smart in their No1s and Jude was so proud of them. It was a privilege for Sam to lower and raise our nations flag. The weather was cool but fine with a light fog lifting which added to the atmosphere of the occasion. After the ceremony we attended the morning cuppa and nibbles before heading back to the farm to prepare for the first of the Otautau 150th Jubilee games.

The games we were to watch over the weekend involved the whole Edge family… Sam’s that is starting with Amanda. Kickoff was at 1.00pm against the Mossburn Women’s team. To be honest when I seen the Mossburn team I thought the Otautau girl were going to get thrashed. Well as normal it’s just as well I didn’t bet on anyone as the Otautau girls went bazerk and kick butt winning 81 – 17.

The Next team up was the Senior C,s which Sam played also as center. The game was was won by Otautau comfortably. It was an exciting game to watch, as well as hilarious as there were more punches thrown than a heavy weight boxing fight… and at the end of the game both teams shook hands, laughed and had beer to celebrate. Well Friday came to an end and we looked forward to Tessa who was playing her first full contact rugby game. Tess is such a talent demonstrating strong tackling on defence and attacking with quick off the mark speed and one hell of a sidestep. Nana Jude was so proud of her and was competing against other kids supporters who could be the loudest lol. Although Waiau Star won it was a great game to watch.
Next up was Billy who was playing his first game in a grade up. He normally played as a flanker or No.8 but was playing center this day, his tackling was good and he had some good off loads to the speedsters whom clocked up some amazing tries and won very convincingly.
Sunday was the Golden Oldies day and the game kicked off at 11. Now this was total fun to watch as I’m not sure if it was rugby or please yourself which way you wanted to run or who you wanted to tackle or whose side you were on… or for that fact if you wanted to participate of have a nap anywhere on the field. I’m sure the ref was fair to both teams as he was blind to the fact it was a rugby game of sorts, it was such a fun game to watch… The only thing missing was a streaker… aaah nah he was there completely birthday suited if you know what I mean🤣😂🤣👍🏽
The weather was amazing as nature spoilt us with sunny warm days for oth ANZAC day and the Jubilee… all in all a fantastic weekend of rugby, family, friends, memories, food, functions and self induced hangovers.
