Mussel Inn For The Milnthorpe Trail walk

After a night of NRL thought I’d have a bit of a sleep in this Saturday, so woke feeling recharged. Weather was good, feeling good and another walk around a trail is again the go. But first it would be a brunch at the Mussel Inn one of Jude and my favorite grazing spots. We arrived at the Mussel Inn at 1130hrs which is about the time we have our brunch. The outside fire pit was still gently smoking away from the previous night, not enough to be annoying and added to the atmosphere of its rustic look.

The menu is has a variety to choose from and because we have been here on many occasions our preferred dish is mussels, for Jude was a dozen steamed mussels and I usually get the same but this time decided to go for the mussel chowder. It didn’t take too long at all for our order to arrive and we bogged in, the steamed mussels were as expected just awesome and the mussel chowder had a tomato base of which I have never tried and wow it was better than I expected.

With brunch finished it was time to go for a leisurely walk on the Milnthorpe Park trails, a mainly bush walk with a variety of trails intertwining with each other. Before heading of we planned the route we wanted to follow which was 6km and included a 1.3km walk along the beach.

The trail was a little wet from a couple of days rain but overall wasn’t to muddy. There is something we love about walking in amongst the native bush that passed down beside the estuary that has some small moored boats but mainly derelict boats that seem to left to just rot away or need some serious rebuilding.

Once through the first part of the walk we came onto the beach, the weather was sunny and warm and made for a beautiful walk along the beach taking our time for Jude to look for the perfect empty horse mussel shell of which she eventually found. Once off the beach it was back into the beach to return on another track that had a short and steep 20min excursion up on a hillside called Leslie’s Lookout. Once taking in the sights from there it was back down the track to complete the final leg of 2kms to the car park.
