Left Te Anau early enough with the intent of staying at Brunel Peaks Cafe located at the turnoff to Lake Monowai, nothing much doing when we arrived and so had brunch and moved to plan “B” Monkey Island. Beautiful day when we arrived lots of people camping and lucky for us still a couple of parking spots free big enough for our Moho. Once parked watched a lone Orca which had driven a couple of hector dolphin close to the beach… awesome, grabbed the chairs and sat on the beach in the beautiful heat of the day. Suddenly Jude took down the beach with her iPhone as she had spotted a Orca close to the shore… after a 300 meter quick jog she returned with disappoint look as it turned out her Orca dorsal fin was just log with a branch sticking up.🤣😂🤣👍🏼 Any way it was so good to watch so many finally enjoying a good summers day after a long wet and cold spring.

Day 2- Woke to a lovely warm morning after a cuppa went for a lovely walk along the beach, the sea was calm and warm to walk in and returned after a 5 km. Jude cooked some awesome scones which as expected I devoured like a hungry Labrador. The day was changing slowly and by the time lunch was finished it had cooled down, tried to read a book on the beach but that didn’t last long and it was back to the Moho. Chilled out and read my book “The Final Analyses”. (More info on this book at end of post).

As early evening slowly crept in (and every slidie van in Southland) Jude starts preparing whitebait and egg fry up and salad for evening meal. By about this time Everyman and his dog is using wireless broadband and wisely Jude has downloaded some viewing just for such events.
Day 3 – For those old enough to know the song “What a difference a day makes”… today is that day. After such a good couple of days here at Monkey Island the weather gods decided to shit all over the party so to speak. Woke up to 10°C with rain and strong SSW winds. For the meantime a beach walk was out of the question… it was a day to just chill, Jude makes more of her breakfast serial, catchup on worldly news and wait for the rain & winds to subside. By late afternoon the rain stopped and the wind persisted to blow, hopefully we will get a walk in after dinner.

The most disappointing part of our walks was walking along the beach to Gemstone Beach and finding that there are no longer stones there, no gems.. nothing… I guess times are changing, Mother Nature is older than time itself and dictates the terms.

“The Final Analyses”by David W. Mantik & Jerome R. Corsi… This quotes is from the book:
“We have to face the unpleasant as well as the affirmative side of the human story, including our own story as a nation, our own stories of our peoples. We have got to have the ugly facts in order to protect us from the official view of reality”. —Bill Moyers
