Woke to a beautiful day at Port Tarakohe this morning, the sun was just breaking above the embankments to the east and the port was as still as glass. The plan for the day is a revisit to the Pupu Hydro Walkway but first, the morning ritual of Judes two hour morning “cups” of tea while she checks in on all the overnight sporting results.

We decided to go on the Pupu Hydro Trail after brunch so in the meantime I thought since I haven’t had the Drone operational since January I might as well put the AEROO drone up for a few photos Before lunch and the hike. I had charged the drone batteries and controller up two weeks ago and made sure there were no firmware updates so it was already to go. For safety I always preregister the drone flight on the NZ CAA app AirShare as it informs them who, what, where and when the flight is taking place plus a few other relevant questions… have registered hundreds of flights over the past 16 years flying drones.

Turned the drone on expecting to do a calibration as we had move 600 kilometers from it last starting location and was surprised it didn’t request a compass and IMU calibration. So up the drone goes, lovely day, no wind just seagulls swooping down and trying to chase the drone out of their territory🤣😂.

Didn’t fly to for making sure I didn’t fly above the 50m height I registered on AirShare app and limited my distance to 400m rather than the 700m I registered. Anyway the photos were good ones and the drone performed very well.
Once the drone was down and packed away Jude wanted brunch at Nikau’s Cafe in Pohara so off we went just to find they were closed on Wednesdays, next choice was continue to Takaka to see what was worth eating at… turns out we chose a place that the staff were short of personality and it turns out the food was no different. By the time we finished brunch and finished browsing the local stores it was too late and getting the early evening chill to go for a walk in the bush. All in all a good day again.
