We have been trying to get out to sea with my grandson Pheno for a bit of fishing and paua, unfortunately those damn weather gods have not been playing fair. Jude and I had done quite a lot of maintenance and repairing on Aftershock and thought we might as well test all the systems in Lake Manapouri over two days. The weather at Manapouri was fantastic… better than we expected and so it was decided we will spend the night out on the lake as well at Stockyard Cove, a very secluded and protection location from just about all points of the compass. “What a difference a day makes”… well in Southland it’s “What a difference a month makes” lol. Summer is here…. Sort of? Well if you go by the progress of the garden it is. freshly laid lawn starting to sprout after 8 days of nothing, all the new raised bed are looking good, the bee patch is shooting away, the tunnel house has gone ballistic and the potato patch is looking like it will be a good crop. A lot of hard grafting went into preparing the raised beds and tunnel house and of course the virtually indestructible garden shed built from pallets (the ideaRead More →

It’s that time of the year when little outside jobs on equipment etc needs to be done. Working on the boat while waiting for an opening in the weather for a flat sea and suddenly there was what I thought to be a reasonable earthquake. Turns out Blake the 8 year old chocolate Labrador had spotted a bird nest down the drawbars box section and was determined to get it if he had to dismantle the boat and trailer to do so. The entrance to the main road from the farm cottage is 1/2 a kilometre away but the sound of a truck with the brakes biting in to pull up a weighty load manage to wake me up with a “What the fuck!” Response. Looking out the bedroom window of our cosy motorhome only to see a behemoth of a truck with orange lights flashing and a trail of support vehicles stopped at the entry gate analysing the width and outlay of the drive before continuing. Curiosity got me out of my cosy bed to watch the unit travel down the driveway. Jude identified the itemRead More →

I don’t have many friends however the few I have know I’m a Trumpy and have been for the past 10 years. Irrelevant to anyone’s political beliefs wither right or wrong, sometimes moments are captured or in this case created that are really quite funny and so love Trump of hate Trump I couldn’t resist posting this video the moment a crowd got the news Donald J Trump is the President elect again to be the 47th President of the United States. (YES!… I know it’s fake but that’s how I felt inside.)😂🤣👍🏼🫡🇺🇸Read More →

(Picture of the afternoon beers location) – Reasonable day weather wise and one Jude and I had chosen to have off from working on jobs around the farm. Time for a trip for our favourite coffee beans from The Roar Cafe in Lumsden in Western Southland. While there decided to have lunch and I must say how much I enjoyed their “Pork ‘n’ Clucked” toasted sandwich. After a lovely lunch return to the farm to re-splice the boat anchor rope to the anchor chain. This job was bloody hard work in the heat of the day but managed to get it done. The best thingRead More →
