Long story but here goes. While up north did a first fishing attempt with the drone and it went well until it crashed into the ocean on the second flight.. the fault was with me for not handling the situation appropriately… no matter how I tried to blame something or someone else. On testing the drone it came up with an error, so rather than risk flying it I sent it to drone hospital to let the expert drone doctors check and or repair it. Took about 6 weeks to get her back with the tick of approval from the repair service. Today the time came to take her for a test flight. Booked a fishing flight for 1300hrs and then decided to do a preflight test of hovering at about 1m off the ground. After doing preflight check and then correcting a compass calibration error by following the calibration procedure, I cranked the engines up let her sit for a while and as I went to lower her to the ground she decided to do her own thing. No matter what emergency procedures I followed it refused to return follow commands, she ignored the RTH command and I couldn’t even kill the engines. In the end it flew into a tree 127 meters away at some unsuspecting neighbour’s home and she was not impressed. She wouldn’t give my drone back and was adamant that she will call the police. There was not point losing my cool over it as they have had problems idiots carelessly playing with drones. Later the police dropped the drone off to me and they were really good… one of them was a drone operator and understood it was not my fault and an issue more with the drone than my skill and knowledge. In the end its back off to the doctor for another repair job.
