With winter fast approaching and the days getting shorter and colder, it is imperative that as much pre winter prepping is achieved around the cottage before we head up country for the cooler part of the year.

The girls rush the gate thinking I had food for them, then realised I’m a useless dick!

Jude and I have given the chooks a bit more shelter in their free range environment in their favourite security area, this is the area we notice they run to when there appears to be a threat, especially when the odd falcon has been spotted circling above.

Looking after her hard work it was time to Trim and securing the feijoa trees she planted along the fence line and a rather timid looking magnolia shrub near the garden shed (of which I suggested should be moved away from the front of the shed anyway) against any winter gales. After purchasing some pea straw, it was placed in veggie and around the cottage gardens.

Myself well I do the Renovation bits and pieces stuff. As Jude just got new double glassed windows put into all the base rooms I got the pleasure of tidying up the frames and preparing them for painting, minuscule, finicky and tedious in my view but I don’t mind it and take pride in the finished result… wee way to go yet before painting.

Jude enjoys helping out around the cottage tittering around in the gardens, harvesting the rewards of our labours from the garden or just helping out where we can. Blake especially loves his daily walks around the farm when Jude does her daily exercise.. a 5+ km circuit or just a ride around with her on the quad bike when she does other tasks around the farm.
