This week Jude and I thought it was time to give the farm and its habitants a break and support the grandchildren in their sports.
First was on Sunday at Turnbull Thompson watching Russell playing Football for his team Queens Park Football Club (QP) against Waihopai. The weather was absolutely pathetic lol, with constant rain, at least it wasn’t too cold and only a light breeze and a good set of wet weather gear kept us happy and fortunately they were on the artificial turf. Russell is playing well and we have enjoyed watching him develop into a fine player. Right from the kick off QP was dominant in all areas of the game with a solid accurate attack and fantastic defence they never really looked threatened. QP won the game 28-nil with Russel scoring 6 goals himself. I will give the Waihopai goal keeper massive kodos for the fantastic effort stopping an amazing amount of goals from a relentless QP attack I’m sure he stopped more than what got through. Jude is excited for Russell’s future football goals and dreams being achieved.
My granddaughter Arlie was playing netball on Wednesday evening at Stadium Southland and Judes grandson William (Bill) was playing Basketball on the Thursday evening at the same stadium
Wednesday day Arlie’s Netball game started at 1600hrs at Stadium Southland. Just as well it was indoors as the weather bomb that hit mid-afternoon was a good cold southerly blast of wind and heavy rain, although it had subsided by the time the game started. It was fantastic to see Arlie in action and the joy she got from playing. Very impressed with Arlie’s goal shooting skills, it was obvious she had been practicing. ‘Good game Arlie’
Thursday was at Stadium Southland as well as Bill and Artie (Judes grandsons) were playing Basketball, there final game of the season. We had watched them play last week and it was fast and furious and they won comfortably. This week didn’t go so well as they played a well drilled Southland Boys High team and the Otautau boys went down to this very good team. Billy and Artie both had a good game but that damn hoop kept evading just about every shot Otautau threw at it. Still proud of the Otautau boys giving it a go and not giving up.
Below: A collection of the Arlie and Tessa’s games.
Saturday was a beautiful warm and sunny day for Tessa to play the grading games at Winton Netball courts of which she had 3 games this day. The Otautau girls did a fantastic job winning all three games this day quite comfortably and was impressed with the speed and agility of Tessa who was the smallest player of all the players in all three games.
Sunday Tessa had two more games against Te Anau and then Takitimu and if I thought Tessa look small against yesterday’s teams, these two made her whole team look tiny. The Otautau girls fought hard but with such tall and older opponents it didn’t matter if the girls were marking the opposition behind or in front, the opposition was able to just reach over the top, however the Otautau girls displayed great courage and determination and never gave in, so 3 wins and two losses wasn’t a bad result.
Apologies to Russell, Artie and Billy for not having photos of their games. “Next Time For sure”
