Nice lazy morning, just chilling out before going to the Te Anau Rodeo… well that was the original plan until we couldn’t be bothered. Decided to have brunch at home (which has been the Te Anau NZMCA Park for the past two nights) before going for a walk to catch up with friends of our Stu and Teri. Unfortunately Stu was at work but enjoyed the afternoon chatting with Teri. A cup of tea , piece of carrot cake and a chocolate brownie later and it was time to head home. Started walking and the skies to the south were dark and ominous looking… theRead More →

Wanted to head away for a week or two after a fantastic Christmas however were unsure about where to as weather forecast look pretty bleak no matter where we decided to go. After a bit of discussion Jude suggested heading up to Te Anau for 3-4 days. Yep that will do me. After a day of getting tidied up from being settled into the farm for a few months we headed off. I don’t know what it is about Highway 94 but every time we travel this stretch of road we have near misses with cars overtaking when they have little time to do soRead More →

Had a wonderfull Christmas Day. Started early so I could head to Invercargill to catchup quickly with Kasharnae and the kids… I guess I was the only one up and bouncing around at 8:30 in the morning. Anyway poor Sharnz looked like death warmed up and it was a quick high and see ya as it looked like she was going to fall asleep talking to me. Who’s next… Daeree and Dan, but got there just in time to snap the family Xmas photo before they head off to celebrate with other families. Well I haven’t seen my sister Cole for sometime so it wasRead More →

It was time to get last minute tasks done so all lawns and other chores completed. With Christmas Day tomorrow it was now time to relax and do some pre Xmas day training while the sun shines. Tom feels that a stab at Shanky’s Whip is just the kick off needed for a good Xmas eve evening and I’m not arguing. It was also important to enjoy the sun as it was forecast for rain and cooler temps tomorrow. Enjoyed a great night with Tom, Kimberly and Jude.Read More →

We have been trying to get out to sea with my grandson Pheno for a bit of fishing and paua, unfortunately those damn weather gods have not been playing fair. Jude and I had done quite a lot of maintenance and repairing on Aftershock and thought we might as well test all the systems in Lake Manapouri over two days. The weather at Manapouri was fantastic… better than we expected and so it was decided we will spend the night out on the lake as well at Stockyard Cove, a very secluded and protection location from just about all points of the compass. First dayRead More →

“What a difference a day makes”… well in Southland it’s “What a difference a month makes” lol. Summer is here…. Sort of? Well if you go by the progress of the garden it is. freshly laid lawn starting to sprout after 8 days of nothing, all the new raised bed are looking good, the bee patch is shooting away, the tunnel house has gone ballistic and the potato patch is looking like it will be a good crop. A lot of hard grafting went into preparing the raised beds and tunnel house and of course the virtually indestructible garden shed built from pallets (the ideaRead More →
