Netball: A huge thanks to coach Lenore Morris for the report on the weekends game where Otautau Buckaroos took on Limehills.

Buckaroos 11 – 17 Limehills
Well the girls certainly had a tougher game yesterday that really put them to the test!
It probably took 3 qtrs before we started to play as a team and really fire.
We had good moments throughout the game. The guys on defence did a really good job, they were a tough opposition and well drilled. Hurley got around 6 Intercepts, that was awesome! And lots of tips all ds! Our shooting was a little wobbly earlier on and we failed to get our rebounds. We also lost a fair amount of ball through the court, our passing was the biggest thing to let the girls down throughout the game.
However….. the last qtr was really impressive as the girls pulled themselves together, won lots of ball, and had some rally nice lines getting down to the shooters with a good finish.
Harps our player of the day did really well, won alot of ball throughout the court and worked hard in both attack and defense, being there on offer.
Limehills was a very clinical team that just capitalized on our errors, they had a very strong defense that also that made it harder for the shooters.
Although we did have a loss, it’s not the worst thing, it just cements that we need to work harder and can do better. It would be helpful for all girls to strengthen their passing with practicing at home. Really push those hard!
Looking forward to seeing the girls on Wednesday, we will be ramping up the practices now for round 2 😁
Enjoy the rest of the weekend, go the steel!!

Rugby: As I didn’t get to see the whole game I have utilized the post from Facebooks Otautau Rugby Club:

Coaches corner – Western Stags Year 7-8

Another tight battle today, going down 36–28 in a fast‑paced clash against EWL Star. The Stags fought right to the final whistle, we are so proud of their effort.

There was a vast improvement at the ruck compared to last week, which was awesome to see. We even managed to steal a heap of their ball.

Player of the Day was incredibly tough to pick — so many stood up.

1 Point – Jackson: Carved them up out wide and made smart decisions around the breakdown.

2 Points – Flynn: A real scavenger today, pinching turnovers and tackling strongly.

3 Points – Monty: Outstanding performance. Tackled like a demon, covered the whole park, and caused havoc by ripping ball after ball in contact. Monty, you’re having a fantastic season.

Queens Park FC

Football: Queens Park FC took on Queenstown FC at Turnbull Thompson Park in Invercargill on Saturday afternoon. The game was a hard watch as both sides attacked each other throughout the half with QT scoring four lovely goals. QP attacked time after time through the first half with multiple opportunities to score unfortunately not one was successful… a big difference from the last game two weeks earlier.

QPFC huddle for final team talk before kickoff.

Being 4-0 down at halftime QP manage to score literally just after kickoff in the 2nd half to give them some hope. As the game went on QP had many opportunities to score however inaccuracy and a very good defensive effort by the QT goalie limited QP to only two more goals when time finally run out and the boys went down 3-4. The difference seemed to be the light breeze and the suns position favored QT in the first half and QP in the second because neither team scored while playing into the sun and breeze. Im sure the coach will have a bit for the young men to work on before the next clash.
