Leaving Southland on a wet day, well one could say how many dry days did we have in the six weeks we were there…mmmmm we did get a week of glorious weather in late October! It was one of the wettest spring’s I’ve ever experienced wet cold and windy! With rain pouring down we said goodbye to family here’s hoping some decent weather returns to the south! Our first stop Lowburn, Lake Dunstan, sun shining for now! We spend 2 nights here, we start back into our fitness, as we have been pretty slack and not doing our usual walks or biking, we must beRead More →

Well it’s been a long month back in Southland. Didn’t realise how hard it would be to catch up with the many friends and family we missed over the previous 12 months. Thankful for Sam and Amanda for tolerating us up the drive for the duration of our stay. Being full time Moho’ers, we know how important it is to stay in touch with our families… a task that is not as easy as one would think. Unlike years of old there is the advantage of the techno-leash where the internet with all its benefits of real-time video such as Facebook, FaceTime, Snapchat, Instagram, textingRead More →

Meaning narrowing waters is 2.2 km north of the American border, lake surrounded by mountains is hot and arid, fruit, wineries and horticulture abound, think Central Otago but bigger! Weather just like a hot summer day in central. Lots of accommodation for vacationers plenty of camp grounds, that is one thing Canada does well the facilities for campers are first class. We stayed at Nk Mip camp ground run by the local native tribe, they have extensive business ventures around the region and employ many tribe members. After researching ( love the internet)best hikes to do round here “we” or should I say “I” lolRead More →

The Strata Club… no I’m not talking about Canada but Auckland Airports Strata Club, this was our first stop after flying in from Gisborne. This club is sort of like Koru Lounge but is pay as you use rather than a massive $600 a year as Koru Club requires. We had a 4 hour wait at Auckland before our thirteen hour flight to Canada. It was total bliss having a relaxing chilling out environment to relax in style with complementary drinks and food thrown in, showers and all. Well enjoyed Strata, money well spent, but it was time to catchup with Dave and Ruth whom wereRead More →

After leaving the Waikato where we spent time with Alan and Linda, riding part of the Te Awa trail Cambridge to the Velodrome a pleasant 11 km, of course great coffee at the Bikery cafe.Onto Tamahere where we stay with Jeremy and Annie, ride from Hamilton Gardens which are fabulous “note to one self go back in the spring!” We follow the Waikato river via the Te Awa river trail a well maintained trail on the banks of the river being early winter the trees losing there leaves a beautiful starkness. It was easy ride with some undulations we rode 15 km to Pukete thenRead More →
