Today Billy has rugby at Drummond for grading day, three 20 minute games against three different teams which starts at 1100hrs and Tessa has netball at 1330hrs at Winton. The weather is threatening but hopefully hangs off until later tonight. And Arlie tries her hand at Badminton.
The first game played was against Riverton, it was a fairly even game with good attacking from both sides, Otautau’s appeared a bit rusty but manage to hold their own against Riverton, overall good forward play.

The second game was against Waiau Star, this was a tough watch as Waiau Star showed how well they have jelled after being together since last season.. Waiau Star forwards and backs were just a bit too sharp for the Otautau boys today. A good lesson for the young Otautau players coming up to this grade and they can only get better.

The third game was against Winton-Midlands. Another well drill and strong team that again is an example of playing together last year and ran rampant over the Otautau team. Otautau gave all they had with some of last years remaining player leading well, unfortunately being the Otautau boys 3rd game for the morning and the only team to not get a break between games fatigue took its toll.
It was good to see Billy putting in some good runs and one of the best goal kicks of the day… well done that young man, also a thanks to Tessa and Harper for running the water crates to the boys. The coaches have had a good look at the games and I’m sure they’ll have a list of things to work on.

Tessa game got underway and we all thought this is going to be a test and a half for the young Otautau girls who were outsized drastically by their opponents Te Anau. Te Anau started out fast and furious, confidently bolstered by the visible height advantage they had over the smaller Otautau girls, that didn’t last long as the Otautau girls gained control after only a few minutes and were just to quick around the court. The Otautau girls had better coordination and a good understanding of each other.

Two battles on the court were Tessa and Te Anau’s Goal Keeper and Centre Harper and her opposite. They both let their opposites know size doesn’t matter as Tessa had 95% success with her goal shooting and with Harper running rings around her opposite Center whom ended up being replaced frustrated by Harper outplaying her. Otautau won all four quarters with the closest between them being the second quarter. End score Otautau 30 | 13 Te Anau.
Last week I had the enjoyment of watching my granddaughter Arlie playing netball and this weekend Arlie seems to be jumping into all the different activities she possibly can! Taking each as an opportunity for fun and giving things a go – turns out, she has natural talent.
Awesome work Arlie!
